If you play on PC, GTA 6's launch day is going to sting a little. On November 19, 2026, console players head to Vice City. PC players watch.
Rockstar has not announced a PC version, a date or even a rough window. But this is not new behaviour, and the studio's past releases tell us a lot about what happens next.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Officially, nothing is confirmed. The only platforms listed on Rockstar's GTA VI page are PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and pre-orders are console-only.
Realistically, a PC version is close to certain. Every main GTA game since GTA 3 has reached PC eventually, and so did Red Dead Redemption 2. PC is too big a market for a game this expensive to skip.
What has Take-Two said?
Not much, but the tone is encouraging. At Take-Two's shareholder meeting in September 2026, CEO Strauss Zelnick said the PC platform is becoming more and more important to the company.
That is not a release date. As Dork's report on his comments makes clear, he did not confirm a GTA 6 PC version or a window. It is, however, a sign that the company is not ignoring PC players.
How long did past Rockstar games take?
This is the most useful evidence we have. Rockstar launches on console first, then brings the game to PC once it is polished.
| Game | Console launch | PC launch | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA 4 | April 2008 | December 2008 | About 8 months |
| GTA 5 | September 2013 | April 2015 | About 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | About 13 months |
Apply that range to GTA 6 and you land somewhere between mid-2027 and mid-2028. Most outlets are guessing late 2027 or early 2028, and that feels about right to me.
There is one hopeful rumour. Wccftech's GTA 6 roundup notes talk that the PC version could arrive faster than past ports did. Nothing backs that up yet, so I would not plan around it.
Will GTA 6 be on Steam?
Probably, but maybe not on day one of the PC release. GTA 5 launched on Steam straight away. Red Dead Redemption 2 did not. It arrived first on Rockstar's own launcher and the Epic Games Store, and reached Steam about a month later.
Rockstar could repeat either approach. If you only buy games on Steam, be ready for a short extra wait.
Why does Rockstar make PC players wait?
There are two likely reasons, and neither is very mysterious.
The first is polish. Consoles are fixed hardware, which makes them easier to optimise for. PC means thousands of hardware combinations, and Rockstar's PC ports tend to arrive with better visuals and extra features as a result.
The second is business. Some fans buy the game on console, then buy it again on PC. A staggered launch earns twice from the most dedicated players.
What could the PC version add?
Nothing is announced, so this is an educated guess based on history. When GTA 5 came to PC, it brought higher resolutions, higher frame rates and the Rockstar Editor for making videos. The PC version then grew a huge modding and role-play scene that kept the game alive for a decade.
It is reasonable to expect the same pattern again: sharper graphics, more settings to tweak and, eventually, mods. Rockstar now owns the team behind the popular FiveM role-play platform, which suggests it takes that community seriously.
What about system requirements?
There are none. Any list of "GTA 6 PC requirements" you find online is a guess, because there is no PC version to measure.
My advice is to hold off on upgrading your PC just for GTA 6. By the time it arrives, graphics cards will be cheaper and faster than they are today.
What to play while you wait
PC players are not short of options. GTA 5 received an enhanced PC edition in 2025 with improved visuals, and GTA Online is still updated regularly. Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the best-looking open-world games on any platform.
If you want a taste of what is coming, read our breakdown of GTA 6's gameplay, story and map. Just be warned that it may make the wait harder.
Should you wait or buy a console?
It depends on how patient you are.
If you already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, the answer is easy. Play it in November. Our pre-order guide explains which edition to pick.
If you only have a PC, think about spoilers. GTA 6 will be everywhere online for months, and avoiding the story for a year or more will be hard. If that bothers you, a console may be worth it. If you would rather wait for higher frame rates and mods, waiting is a perfectly good choice.
Cost matters too. A console plus the game is a big purchase, especially in Nepal, where a PS5 alone costs far more than the game. We cover local prices in our guide to buying GTA 6 in Nepal.
One warning: be careful with any site claiming to offer a GTA 6 PC download, beta or early key. No PC version exists yet, so those are scams.
