Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
The Classic Inca Trail is a four-day, 42-kilometer trek through the Peruvian Andes, following a stone path built by the Incas over 500 years ago. It winds past cloud forest, high mountain passes, and a string of Inca ruins before ending at Machu Picchu — reached, uniquely, through the Sun Gate on foot rather than by bus or train. It's the most famous multi-day trek in South America, and permits are limited and tightly controlled by the Peruvian government.
